If one may be in your home, preschool, or child-care setting, move it out of children’s reach while you check its physical features and production identifiers against the official notices for Esjay, Melissa & Doug, and Joyreal. Do not cut, discard, mark, or otherwise alter the board before confirming an exact match because each recall has a different remedy.

What to do right now
These notices do not cover every busy board, sensory board, activity board, or Montessori-style toy. A similar color, shape, or design is not enough to confirm that a product has been recalled.
Use this four-step process:

Do not continue using a confirmed recalled product simply because no injury has been observed. Do not apply one company’s recall instructions to another board. In particular, wait for a confirmed match before cutting off a component, writing on the toy, discarding a page, or submitting a remedy request.

Esjay Toddler Busy Board: check the red-knob page
CPSC recall 26-775, announced September 17, 2026, covers about 276,000 Esjay Toddler Busy Board Montessori Toys. The affected product is a carrying-style blue felt board with dinosaur imagery, five pages, and a 26-square alphabet design on the back.
The important feature is on the second page. Its red knobs can detach, creating a small part and a choking hazard. CPSC says the toy violates the federal small-parts ban for products intended for children under three. The boards were sold on Amazon.com from March 2023 through July 2026 for approximately $18 to $30, and no injuries were reported.
After confirming the match, owners are instructed to write “RECALLED” on the red-knob page, discard that page, and email the required photograph to Esjay. Melissa & Doug Fire Truck Activity Board: check the date wheel or package code
CPSC recall 26-780, announced September 17, 2026, covers about 84,000 Lights & Sounds Fire Truck Activity Boards. It does not cover every Melissa & Doug activity board or automatically include every version of the fire truck board.
Affected units have one of the listed date-wheel combinations or packaging codes Melissa & Doug Recalls Fire Truck Activity Board Toys Due to Risk of Serious Injury from Choking Hazard; Sold Exclusively at Target (CPSC, recall 26-780).

The fire-hose port can loosen and detach, creating a choking hazard. The affected boards were sold exclusively at Target stores and Target.com from July 2025 through August 2026 for about $30. The recall reports 26 incidents of the hose port loosening and one minor cut; it does not describe those reports as 26 choking incidents.
Owners of a confirmed affected board may choose a free replacement, a $30 refund by check, or a $40 store credit. The claim instructions require the owner to cut off the hose and upload a photograph. Joyreal LED Busy Board: check the SKU and series number
The February 26, 2026 Joyreal recall applies to an LED Busy Board with SKU MX049-3 and series number 20250730. Both identifiers matter. The recall does not establish that every Joyreal board—or every similar LED board—is affected.
About 210 recalled boards were sold on Amazon by Indream Store from September through November 2025 for approximately $20. A small mirror can detach, presenting choking and laceration hazards. CPSC identifies violations of the small-parts ban and the mandatory toy standard.
The stated remedy is a full refund. Once both identifiers have been confirmed, the owner is instructed to mark the board “RECALLED” and email the required photograph. Use the official Joyreal recall notice for current contact and photo-submission details.
A preschool toy-shelf audit and notification checklist
A classroom recall check should cover more than the shelves currently in use. Inspect:
- Active classroom shelves and activity centers
- Storage closets and supply cabinets
- Calm-down or quiet-play spaces
- Shared-material rooms
- Staff workrooms where toys await rotation
- Lending collections and take-home materials
Ask staff to check each location systematically rather than relying on memory. A board that has not been used recently may still be stored for a future classroom rotation.
Photograph the complete board and all available identifiers before beginning a confirmed product’s remedy. Depending on the product, that may include the front and back, labels, date wheel, packaging code, SKU, series number, detachable component, and original packaging.

Record the identification process even when a board turns out not to be covered. That gives staff a clear account of what was checked and reduces the chance that the same product will be repeatedly removed and rechecked without documentation.
If a recalled product was accessible in a classroom, communicate confirmed facts without implying that a child was injured. A neutral family notice could say:
We removed a [product name] from use after reviewing a product recall and are following the official remedy. This notice does not mean that an injury occurred.
Staff records should make the same distinction. Document where the toy was stored, when it was isolated, which identifiers were checked, and what remedy was started. Do not allege exposure or injury unless that information has been documented.
